We are going to Montserrat today, so we wake up at 730 and have a brunch before we go and take the train. This is a cafe nearby our apartment. We found out that the shop keeper is Chinese. Food was just alright but their coffee was quite good. Each of us had 2 cups lol (it’s too early for us..)

we heard that there is no restaurant at Monsterrat -,- so we went to a local supermarket to buy some snacks and bread.

We bought a R5 + cable car tickets = 20 euros. Then take R5 (train) to get to the cable car station. The whole journey is around an hour.  And damn it! we realized that the 5 day travelpass we bought included R lines…. Wasted so much money -__- You guys please don’t be so stupid like us.. remember to check your ticket..

We decided to go to the cross. The Montserrat mountain actually have a really interesting history.

” The history of Montserrat is fascinating and started in 880 when a small group of shepherd children saw a bright light descending from the sky in the Montserrat mountains. In the same moment the children heard angels singing and the music filled their hearts with a radiant joy.”

We bought a return rail ticket to travel up to Santa cova and go hike for a bit to find the Cross.  Actually I have no idea about the history of this mountain at all when i was there. I didn’t know there is a cave, but I saw in google, people saying we can hike up to a cross and have really great view, so we just decide to go and take a look.  (What a pity that  we missed the cave)

Santa cova is the place where according to legend, the image of the Virgin Mary was seen by shepherds.  There you go!

From the rail station to the cross, it took us 40mins to hike up. You can’t imagine how steep the road is. Some of them were literally 45 degrees. Need to be quite careful. Most hikers and visitors were really well-prepared, with a pair of suitable shoes at least. 4 of us, boots, Toms and 2 converse. Our feet were burning.

The view is just indescribable. It’s stunning when we arrive. Just feel like I am going to touch the sky and everything is below your feet. Compare to other landscapes and city view that I have seen, this is definitely the 1st in my list.

Since we bought a return rail ticket and we have no idea where the road leads us to, we walked back up to the station. We arrived there at 6.15pm and we found out that we have missed the last rail!!!! We were so lost and felt so hopeless. We had no idea about the last train since there were no signs at all when we bought the tickets and all the signs were in Spanish. We were thinking if we should call 112 or their emergency office. Then!! we found out that the office is closed. !@#$%$^%$#^*^%^#!  This was the most desperate moment in our life.

We eventually found a map at the back of the station which got route to go back down. It’s a closed route!! We can actually walk back down to the Cathedral by following the route we walked and keep walking  for around 15 mins more. God!!!! After all those walking, we need to go back down again.

We were so tired and just wanted to leave that mountain right away. We blamed ourselves for being so stupid and careless. We were so angry with their no-English at all signs and instructions on the mountain and from the counter. I am sure there are many visitors had and will experience something like us.  As a big developed city and a city with lots of foreign travelers each year. I really think they need to improve.

Afterall, my aim to Montserrat is to have some unique and  unforgettable experience. I guess I really have reached my aim…. in a total different way and a way that I have never expected to be. But yeah… I don’t think I will go hiking again.. or for awhile.
